For me being a parent is a natural extension of being an artist and vice versa. The impulse to create, nurture, examine, evolve, empathize and celebrate runs through both. My choice to be an artist is quite pragmatic. It’s how I want to spend the hours of my days. I want to build things and tell stories and make messes. I like questions without answers. My choice to be a parent is just as selfish. I like to hold hands and take naps and scream at helicopters. My idea of making art is not one of a “practice” or contract but of an indulgence in generosity and reflection and being a parent never occurred to me as an obligation but as an opportunity for joyful revolution.
